All In Good Spirit…

Greetings to all and sundry. If you are reading this, then it means one of three things…

  1. You are me
  2. You are very very bored and have too much free time
  3. You are interested in coming to Powerpoint on Friday night… THIS WEEK

Perhaps you fit into more than one category, or even all three (I find this unlikely.

Anyway, waffling aside (mmmmmmm waffles), Powerpoint is this Friday night. We’ll be starting at 7.30pm on the dot, so make sure you are there. The topic this month is “The Power of the Spirit” and, having recovered from her cold, Caitlin McKenzie will be speaking (I think I speak for everyone when I say: Hiooooooooooooooooo).

There’s a lot of great stuff to get through this week, so get yourself along. We look forward to seeing you there.

Bring on Friday 8th February… erm… as the saying goes

Song List

Hi all,

I’ve had a few requests for last weeks song list so thought I would post it up. We played around with many of the keys and amended some of the chords so that songs would link effectively on to each other. Also, we rarely, if ever, play the songs we actually practiced or in the order we practiced them, so I’ll try and do this from memory…

Beautiful One (G)
Celebrate (D)
Awesome God (A)
Amazing Grace (A)

O Praise Him (A)
Celebrate (D)

Light of the World (E)
Thank You For Saving Me (E)
God of Wonders (A)
Mighty to Save (A)
The Stand (D)
Our God is An Awesome God (D)
Give Thanks to the Lord (A)

I think that’s right, though I could be wrong! Don’t shoot the messenger! If anyone is looking for any other information, feel free to leave a comment (feel free anyway) or email info@powerpointedinburgh.co.uk

See you on the 8th February at 7.30pm… won’t I?

And Tomorrow We Worship…

Hello

What’s the best thing anyone ever told you? I like what you’re wearing today Susan…? My that’s lovely mascara you’ve got on Gary…? Cracking pair of ears you’ve got there Steven…? For some of us, it’s tricky to remember exactly the best thing is. Not for me; does this sound familiar…

You are ‘holy, chosen and dearly loved’ – God!

We are all children of God; Holy, chosen and dearly loved; that includes you – each as much as the next! Is that not amazing???!!! There’s surely nothing better! If you don’t believe me, check out Colossians 3:12. In view of this, if you come tomorrow, have that thought in your head; you are holy, chosen and dearly loved, did I mention that already? Holy, chosen and dearly loved… But Colossians was last year’s book for study…

This year is Romans; and this month is Romans 5: 1-11, the Power of “Therefore”. It’s going to be a great night THEREFORE, you will experience the Holy Spirit at work; THEREFORE you will rejoice; THEREFORE you will feel holy chosen and dearly loved…

Ok, none of that is guaranteed and a lot depends on you and how you react to what is happening and what is going on around you; but the evening has been prepared with YOU in mind.

In your prayers, please remember Gareth (guitarist) and Caitlin (Caitlin) who are both suffering pretty badly with the cold. Both will be soldiering through the pain and sniffles to facilitate your enjoyment and aid your meeting with the Lord…

See you tomorrow….???? I know Anderoooooo and Kels are coming; surely it won’t just be the three of us????

THIS FRIDAY!!!

Abba once sang a song that went: “Happy new year, happy new year…” and Tim Hughes sings a song that goes “O Happy Day”; I think Abba’s salutations were a trifle more ambitious… well done Abba. On that note, why don’t we say to people “happy day” in a similar way to “happy new year” – cheer someone up tomorrow by wishing the first person you see a “happy day”…*

Anyways, on that note, please be aware that Powerpoint is THIS FRIDAY… that’s what your calendar will describe as “the 11th January 2008”. Gordon Brown recently hailed 2008 “the official year of Powerpoint”… ok, so that is a complete lie, but maybe we’re not reaching high enough. Malcolm Round from St Mungos will be speaking on “The Power of Therefore”; what do you mean you don’t understand what that means? I guess you’ll just have to come along and find out.

There’s also a good friend you have been afraid, or embarrassed to ask, isn’t there? Well why not take that step and ask them to come along… they might just have a great time.

Hiiiiiiooooooooooooo

*Please note, I am fully aware this is not the purpose of the song “Happy Day”; it’s just a joke (careful now…)

Powerpoint, Friday 14th December

Please acknowledge with much admiration and respect, the evident time and effort that went into the above subject heading – pretty imaginative stuff huh? Well, what would you suggest for a more suitable subject heading (bear in mind I like my puns)?

A good friend of mine once said to me:

“Christmas time, mistletoe and wine,
Children singing Christian rhyme,
With logs on the fire and gifts on the tree
A time to rejoice in the good that we see”

That was my old chum Sir Cliff talking about the joy that is Powerpoint December (did I mention it was on at 7.30pm on Fridat 14th December, 2007 at St Thomas’ Church on the Glasgow Road, Edinburgh)…

I can’t promise logs, fire, gifts or trees… but I can promise Christian rhyme and rejoicing; also, we spoke to our lawyers who recommended we not persevere with the “mistletoe room” we were planning this year. Oh, and given the average age of those attending Powerpoint is 12 – 17, we feel wine wouldn’t be wise either; but there’s always plenty of Irn Bru… So in conclusion, Cliff’s claims were 80% lie and 20% truth. But hey, it should be good anyway.

Some things are certain about next Friday:

1) There will be plenty of fun
2) You are coming (aren’t you?)
3) You’re inviting some of your chums…
4) God will be glorified
5) Keith Short will be speaking and that means you will be challenged
6) There will be some Christ-centred worship
7) Santa will not be there (he’s quite busy at this time of year… or so his agent tells us)

So, you coming or what? Of course you are, it’ll be a cracker (geddit?) – ok, so that was a lame one, but it’s not easy to be funny in text.

So, I guess I’ll see you there. We’ve got a heavy programme, so be there for 7.30 sharp.

Thanks for some of the comments on this blog recently, please do keep them coming as we love to hear from you.

Can I Borrow £1?

Hi everyone, sorry it’s been so long since I updated this, but time is money and all that… Speaking of which…

£1 Coin

How do we use one of these pictured above to bless someone…? Perhaps we get together with some chums and make one of these…

Stack of Coins

Or, perhaps, we buy the ingredients to make some of these

Muffins

And then sell them to these

To make some of these

£10

Sorry about that, I got carried away a bit there, but I think you see the point! December’s Powerpoint is a freebie as usual and (as usual), we are planning on taking a collection so that we can bless some people who need to know God’s love and blessings. If you’ve forgotten why exactly you came home from Powerpoint last Friday with more money than usual, there’s a reason (by the way, you should have returned with £1 in your pocket, if there was any more or any less, speak to someone about it…). People need to know the love of God at Christmas and you guys (and us) can show that – and hey, it can be fun.

Karl Martin from MBC shared some stuff about an initiative which is spreading, and with that spread, the love of God is being shining and will continue to. To find out what it was all about, check out the Just Christmas website http://www.justchristmas.org.uk – if you’re a Facebook member and interested, and prepared to take the challenge, why not show your support and join the group

I’ll write more before the next Powerpoint, but set the date in your diary; it should be a good ‘un; but then, they’re all good aren’t they….? Aren’t they….?????

Oh that reminds me, please do leave any comments on the site; we would love to hear from you and we would welcome any thoughts you have. Frankly, the extent of commenting on this site has been lacklustre at best…

Hiiiiioooooooooooo

Friday 9th November; The Power of The Cross

Remember remember the 9th of November
To Powerpoint, St T’s you must trot
I see no reason why in this cold season
You wouldn’t want to learn of the cross…

That’s right, Powerpoint, in association with Guy Fawkes, returns to your souls tomorrow night at St Thomas’ Church on Glasgow Road, Edinburgh. 7.30pm the evening will kick off with some Spirit-led worship, some tenuous games, a great bit of chat from Mr Ollie Clegg and a few other bits ‘n’ bobs thrown in for good measure.

Please come, bring your friends, youth groups and those who feel need encouragement… we’ll manage and lives will be changed!

The team will be there tonight, preparing themselves, testing just how loud the speakers will go, finding the groove and making the final plans that will lead to your entertainment and God’s glory…

There has been an amazing atmosphere at PP this year and that is thanks to YOU, the people who come along and are willing to listen to the voice of the Lord, who are willing to be inspired and also who are willing to inspire. I know I speak for everyone when I say that you inspire us, the Powerpoint team, with your enthusiasm, your brilliant voices, your willingness to contribute and your remarkable spirit and enthusiasm… give yourselves a round of applause and thank God for the gifts you have and the enthusiasm you radiate which inspires the team around you!

See you tomorrow night??? What do you mean you haven’t decided yet? Of course you’ll be there… there’s nothing else to do!

Peace

Next Week

It turns out that in but 10 days we are all going to be worshipping God and learning about The Power of the Cross… My word how quickly a month goes by! I hope you’ll agree that Powerpoint has been great this year and with the programme we have lined up for next week, it’s sure set to continue.

Entries for the T-Shirt competiton finish early next week, so feel free to send any more of your crazy shennanigans to tshirt@powerpointedinburgh.co.uk No doubt we will see some spectacular efforts at the event itself on Friday next week. We reckon there were 100 of you last time in your personalised, handmade tshirts – awesome effort! All I can say is: Hiiiiioooooooooooo

We’re filled to the gills at the moment, but don’t let that stop you inviting someone along who would benefit from the event and feeling the work of the Holy Spirit…

Anybody looking for more info on Powerpoint etc can email the team at info@powerpointedinburgh.co.uk (my aren’t we moving with the times?)

See you next week

Neil
